Grade 9 Individuals and Societies students are off to a great start this school year!  It has been a real pleasure to get to know them as students.  We are in full swing with our first unit of inquiry which examines the Interwar Years, or the period between the world wars (1919-1939).  Our focus for this unit is on systems of government and explores the cause and effect relationships between effective governance and the likelihood of conflict.  Key topics and concepts include the impact of the Treaty of Versailles on Germany in the aftermath of World War One, factors influencing the failures of the League of Nations, and the causes and consequences of the rise of Totalitarianism in Europe.  Students have been working on a mid-unit summative task entitled Inheriting Chaos.  This is an inquiry-based task where students create and justify a clear and focused research question on the problems facing the Weimar Republic in the early 1920s.  Students will create an action plan for research, consider the most effective research methods, assess the values and limitations of selected sources, and reflect on the results of their investigation.  This assessment is due on Sunday, 8 October and will be assessed using Criterion B (Investigation).
