As we kick off May, it’s important to acknowledge that this is Mental Health Awareness month. This Wednesday, the Student Services Team (SST) held a Parent Engagement Workshop & round table, which focused on our Primary Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program. During the workshop, we discussed the various elements of the program, the evidence-based rationale behind it, and how it supports our students’ emotional growth and well-being.
I’m delighted to say that the workshop was well-attended by parents, and their contributions were incredibly valuable. We had a productive conversation about the importance of social and emotional learning, particularly the role diet, adequate sleep, and exercise on readiness to learn. We also discussed the important role that language and adult role models plays in learning how to develop healthy responses to big emotions.
Moving forward, we’re excited about the prospect of organizing more wellbeing-focused learning events. We are committed to building a supportive environment for our students and families, and we believe that focusing on social and emotional learning is a critical component of that effort.
Thank you to all the parents who attended.
