Grade 7 students have done a lot of hard work to prepare for these artworks. We have gotten to the point where everyone comes in knowing exactly what they are going to work on that day, and can simply sit down and dig in.

The atmosphere in the art space is fast-paced but fun. Everyone is busy trying to recreate the correct tones from their photographs using materials ranging from fabric scraps to pencil shavings and pages photocopied from their favorite books. One of today’s experiments involved how to take a bag of local Oman sand and dye it blue to use in a particular section of the artwork. Remember, our key concept is identity; all these materials communicate something about the maker’s hobbies, interests, culture, or personality!
