The Grade 9 Oman Week activity provided an excellent opportunity for the students to experience an intensive MYP Interdisciplinary Unit to help them prepare effectively for success in their MYP studies. Given the title SneakerHeads, the project centred around combining the disciples of Design and Visual Arts with the students researching and designing their own individual sneaker design. With Oman being the focus of this week, the students researched different contemporary Omani artists, looking into how they used art work in their designs.
Students worked with various aspects of the two disciplines, including:

  • the design cycle
  • colour wheels
  • colour palettes
  • mood boards
  • design apps (including SketchBook Pro)
  • presentation and communication skills

The Global Context of this project was Personal and Cultural Expressions and the students really worked effectively showing their own personal expression through their designs. They worked meticulously to make their ideas a reality and, as teachers, we were proud of each outcome.
Have a look at some of the pictures below which show students at work and also their completed designs!
