We are drawing to a close of both the school term and the current units in science. While studying our home- planet earth, students have been actively engaged in research and inquiry. My approach in these units were for students to discover the concepts through in-depth research, making their own notes and summaries and constantly questioning everything. Someone once mentioned to me that little children between the ages of 2-4 constantly ask why? around 400 timesĀ  a day! (to be verified) And for various reasons – our own sanity included – we as parents redirect or shut down these endless questions!. If we want our children to develop critical thinking, then we need to rethink our approach to learning. By constantly directing their questioning to inquiry and seeking meaningful solutions, we can help them start to develop that muscle which is critical thought. And maybe, just maybe, we might learn along with them. Enjoy the weekend.
