Valuable team projects are coming out of the G9 class this year in IGCSE Global Perspectives. These are projects that create an impact through action based research surrounding important global issues. The three advocacy and awareness outcomes this year have focused on: Food Shortages, Redefining Terrorism, and the relationship between Conflict & Poverty.
Each team chose their own unique way of raising awareness about their topic areas. Courtney, Ishtiaq, and Michael did a TED Talk with the G8 class creating a discussion on redefining terrorism. Julio, Trina, Newton, and Omar did a simulation so the G6 class could “experience” the situation of people living with food shortages. And Sanna, Tahlyn, and Abhishek did a 3-way awareness approach that includes a speech, poster, and Instagram feed based on the relationship between conflict and poverty. https://www.instagram.com/opening.our.minds/
The students’ dedication to raising awareness and searching for solutions to these issues is an essential element of Global Perspectives. The G9s are learning to become socially engaged and active based on empathy for the difficult situations people are facing in a complex world.
