G7 Math students are embarking on a fundraising experience that involves a lot of math! As part of this fundraising math project, students are using fractions, decimals, and percents to do a cost analysis. This analysis will help them determine the value of items they plan to sell at their fundraiser to support an Orphanage in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In order to gather necessary data to make our calculations, this week, we visited Carrefour on a fact finding expedition. This trip was purely about data collection so G7 students can make informed decisions about the costs of the ingredients they will be using for their recipes. Students are also learning how to “buy local” as much as possible and to consider how they can make their fundraiser more in line with sustainability (i.e. not using plastic containers, plastic forks, styrofoam etc.). Students are also learning to find substitutes for ingredients that might be more cost effective. These are all valuable skills for making decisions about what they buy and consume well into the future, and for any kind of business or charity they may wish to get involved with.

The G7 Fundraiser is scheduled for Wednesday April 4th, and Sunday April 8th. Please support G7s with this exciting project! Thank you!!
