Hands-on chemistry is a great way to explore and learn about chemical reactions, how they occur, and how we know what happened in the reaction. G7 students practiced identifying gases released from chemical reactions using gas testing procedures including the “Squeeky Pop” test and bubbling the gases through lime water. Scientific methods with close observations allowed students to make a clear identification of the gases released. In the process, students learned lab safety and how to handle chemicals in a safe way. They also learned the names of lab apparatus, and how to use scientific language in a laboratory setting. This was a great learning experience for all of us!
