G7 & G8 students are embarking on a new chapter of personal project called STEAM. No, we’re not just talking about a hot gas that boils off from water.. we’re talking about Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics! Many of you may have heard about STEAM as it has been recognized by both national and international schools around the globe for it’s interdisciplinary approach to learning 21st Century skills that our students will need as they enter a complex and changing world.

Enquiry and Creative problem solving are at the core of this globally respected program. We’re excited to see where this will lead our students as they enquire and try to solve real-world problems. In this program, students may even have the opportunity to enter their projects into international contests, like the “Google Science Fair” https://www.googlesciencefair.com/en/. Check out some of these innovative projects to get a first hand idea of where this program could lead us.

As can be seen in the photos, our first week of STEAM was a warm-up where students were given challenges that required them to use team work and problem solving. Students had to think collaboratively in order to find solutions to problems like, “Find your way through a secret maze” without talking to others. And try to move the cup of water (radioactive substance) from a given distance (a safe distance away), given a string, rubber band, and a couple paper clips. Keep watching for updates about STEAM!
