Thank you to everyone who bought the homemade goodies from our fundraisers this week, and a BIG thank you to the G7 parents for any extra shopping trips and food preparation support you gave to this project. It’s great to see your involvement. Proceeds from this fundraiser are going toward meeting the basic needs of children at Masana Orphanage in Uganda. We’ll keep you posted about our donation to Masana Orphanage when it takes place (soon!).
Of the many benefits of this type of “service learning” fundraising project, are the opportunity to apply several real-world math skills, including data collection, unit conversion, spreadsheet practice, using fractions, decimals, & percents, cost analysis, logic, reasoning and more. Students collaboratively chose an item to sell and determined from a recipe all the costs of the ingredients and used this data to analyze costs, pricing, and profit (for donation). One rule was that it had to be “homemade” not a mix or simply store bought. This provided the extra challenge of food preparation which students can always benefit from doing.

Another aspect of the project was about finding the most sustainable products, locally made / grown whenever possible. We also tried to avoid using plastics and styrofoam when serving the foods.

Thank you again for all your support!!!
