Alla’s wide eyes; Anton’s motor mouth; Michael’s fidgeting; Tamika’s bouncing knees; everybody showed their nervousness in their own way. But when the starter shouted, “Swimmers, take your mark,” all that anxiety seemed to vanish and our students made ABIS proud.
The setting was The American International School of Muscat (TAISM) and the event was our first-ever swim competition. Fifteen students from grades 3-8 made up our inaugural swim team and they went up against not just TAISM but also the Sultan School. The atmosphere was lively, positive, and exciting.
Despite being a small, inexperienced school, ABIS did very well. Special kudos to Tamika and Chloe, who won several of their races, Claire, who came in second a few times, and both our relay teams, who gutted out impressive swims. Our youngest swimmers–Marius, Courtney, Sachin, Alla, and Abishek–showed impressive composure in a new and, at times, intimidating scene.
