Where we have been informs who we are

Sohar Aluminium recognizes that a quality international school is needed in Sohar… and decides to build one.

Sohar Aluminium, then recently built, decided to set up the Al Batinah International School to provide high quality education for expatriate families moving to the area.

ABIS opens its doors for the first time to students

Initially located in a villa near the airport that was then nowhere to be seen, ABIS welcomes student for the first time.

ABIS moves to its brand new, purpose built buidings

The school moves to its current location to become the proud owners of some great new facilities including the best gym in town and a wonderful swimming pool.

The school is authorized to offer the PYP

As only the third school in Oman, ABIS is authorized to offer the inquiry based Primary Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate.

ABIS offers IGCSE courses to middle school students

The school offers a programme for students up to 16 years old culminating in the IGCSEs.
In 2020/21, the school replaced Cambridge IGCSEs with MYP eAssessments

The school opens the SLS. A home for our secondary school students

After spending years being in the primary school rooms, the SLS provides our older students with a wonderful space to learn and grow.

ABIS is authorized to offer the IB Diploma Programme and opens up Grade 11

Our first students enter the IB Diploma course… all four of them! A new world for them and for us.

ABIS starts working together with Sohar Aluminium & Orpic to develop a partnership

Discussions start to look at ways that we can expand ABIS, provide an exciting future for the school and give back to the local community.

We start the authorization process to go from a member of the Council of International Schools to an accredited member status

ABIS starts construction of a major expansion & improvement of its facilities

ABIS is an accredited member of the Council of International Schools (CIS)

ABIS becomes an accredited member of the prestigious CIS.

Grand opening of the new facilities

The Al Batinah International School (the leading International Baccalaureate School in Northern Oman) completed the major expansion project, started in 2015, creating one of the most innovative and student centered schools in the Middle East.

ABIS becomes an MYP candidate school

ABIS is given candidate status and offers IB MYP. The MYP is a challenging framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world.

The International Baccalaureate authorizes ABIS for the IB Middle Years Programme.

ABIS becomes an IB Continuum World School (delivering three IB programmes from Early childhood until Senior School), one of only two schools in Oman.
