As part of our exploration ofย Classroom Community, KG1 learners have been building a ongoing inquiry chart: “What Questions Can We Ask Our New Teachers and New Friends?”
Today, we progressed to questions #9 and #10:
-
Question #9: “Do you have a pet?”
-
Question #10: “What pet do you have?”
๐ Hands-On Data Collection & Analysis
Using these two new questions, the students created a real-time Classroom Pet Chart to collect, count, and analyze data across our group:
-
Cats & Rabbits: We recorded 3 students with cats and 3 with rabbits. Some learners highlighted that they have multiple pets (up to 2) at home.
-
Exploring the Concept of Zero (0): Students identified and counted 0 for snakes, mice, and birds.
-
Classroom Diversity: We discussed that many of our peers do not have pets, helping children recognize that every family dynamic is unique.

๐ Next Steps
Because several classmates were absent due to illness, our data for questions #9 and #10 is not yet complete. The children practiced phrasing their inquiry questions today and are prepared to interview their returning peers to finalize our chart.
