Hello Parents and Students,
It’s been another full-throttle week in the Math and Physics departments! There’s a definite “buzz” in the air as we wrap up major topics and the senior students shift into high-gear revision.
Here’s a look at what we’ve been grappling with (sometimes literally):
💪 Grade 10: May the Net Force Be With You
The clear highlight of the week belongs to Grade 10 Physics. After being formally introduced to the joys of acceleration (a.k.a. “speeding up,” “slowing down,” and “turning”), we ended our week with a very hands-on investigation.
To truly understand Net Forces, we held a small, very scientific, and totally-not-just-for-fun arm-wrestling tournament. 🤼
It was the perfect way to demonstrate balanced forces (the stalemate) vs. unbalanced forces (the glorious victory). Rest assured, all elbows are in good working order, and the concept of “unbalanced force causes acceleration” is now firmly cemented in their minds!
🏔️ Grade 11: Reaching Major Summits
This was a week of milestones for Grade 11 as they conquered some hefty units:
- Math SL: We’ve done it! The entire Functions unit is complete. After mastering domain, range, and inverses, we’re now kicking off our next adventure with Exponents. (Things are about to get big, fast. 📈)
- Math HL: A huge congratulations to the HL crew for officially finishing Mathematical Induction. This is one of the most logically demanding topics, and they’ve persevered. The last domino has fallen!
- Physics SL: We have put a bow on Unit A: Kinematics. They can now describe the motion of anything with graphs and equations. (Next up: why things move!)
- Physics HL: We are T-minus 30 minutes from completing our mind-bending journey into Einstein’s Special Relativity. After one final look at timey-wimey-ness, we will begin Rigid Body Mechanics (think spinning, tumbling, and torques) to officially close out the massive Unit A.
⚔️ Grade 12: Sharpening the Swords
For our seniors, the atmosphere has shifted. The finish line of revision is in sight, and the Mocks are on the horizon.
- Math (SL & HL): REVISION MODE is ON. We are in full review, tackling practice problems, identifying weak spots, and connecting the dots from the past two years. The focus is intense.
- Physics (HL): The grand revision tour is coming to an end. We are now officially transitioning into the most crucial phase: Past Papers. This is where we stop just knowing the content and start mastering the exam.
It’s a demanding time for everyone, especially Grade 12. Thanks for all your support at home. Keep encouraging breaks, sleep, and good food—it makes all the difference!
