In an exciting culmination of their unit on biomolecules, our Grade 9 students recently completed a Criterion A summative test. The results were impressive, showcasing a solid understanding of key concepts among the majority. However, a few students will be revisiting their notes to strengthen their grasp of these foundational topics, which are essential for their future studies in the Diploma Programme (DP). Having laid a strong groundwork in biomolecules, the students have now embarked on a new adventure: Criterion B and C assessments. This phase challenges them to delve deeper into the scientific process by designing their own investigations, collecting data, and analyzing their findings. To enhance their understanding of enzyme activity, students will spend valuable time in the lab, experimenting with various factors that influence enzyme kinetics.
This hands-on experience not only reinforces theoretical knowledge but also fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The lab sessions will provide a dynamic environment where students can observe firsthand how changes in temperature, pH, and substrate concentration can affect the rate of enzyme activity. By collaborating with their peers and engaging in practical investigations, students will develop a deeper appreciation for the complexities of biological processes. As they navigate through these assessments, our students are not just learning about biomolecules; they are cultivating a scientific mindset that will serve them well in their academic journeys ahead. The skills they acquire now will be invaluable as they transition into the more rigorous demands of the DP. Stay tuned for more updates as our young scientists embark on their investigative journeys, uncovering the fascinating world of enzymes and beyond!
