Recently, our Grade 9 students delved into the fascinating world of biomolecules as part of their science curriculum. They engaged in hands-on activities to test for the presence of starch using iodine, and for sugars with the Benedict’s test. This foundational exploration is essential, laying the groundwork for the more complex concepts they will encounter in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) Biology syllabus.

As part of their experimental design, students formulated their own research questions and hypotheses, fostering a spirit of inquiry and collaboration. It was inspiring to witness their enthusiasm and teamwork throughout the activities.

Looking ahead, next week, students will expand their understanding by testing for the presence of proteins in various food samples using the Biuret test. We are excited to see how their exploration of biomolecules continues to unfold!
