This term Grade 9s students have been studying protest poetry. They learned note-making skills such as annotations and how to use a key for their annotations. They learned and practised identifying poetic devices that poets use to structure their poems as well as literary and linguistic devices. Ultimately, the students have to transform their annotations into an academic essay. They wrote an academic essay in Term 1 and this term they have to apply their knowledge and understanding of introductory paragraphs and extended PEEL paragraphs to the analysis of poetry. They wrote introductory paragraphs and first body paragraphs for formative feedback and continued practicing the necessary communication skills.
