In English students started reading ‘The Outsiders,’ by SE Hinton. They are noting the events, reasons for clashes between the rival gangs and studying character development. At present they are working in pairs to complete a poster an individual character that includes details of appearance, actions and important relationships. They are expected to use quotations from the source to support their ideas.
In Individuals and Societies students are investigating different types of governments. At present they have considered the strengths and weaknesses of monarchies and democracies. They are about to create a podcast on an important event on the road to democracy (for instance, the Magna Carta in England or the fall of the Berlin Wall. Eventually students will inquire into totalitarian states.
