Grade 9 Individuals and Societies students have recently begun their next unit of inquiry on World War Two in Europe. This unit builds on our previous topic of inquiry in that it explores the impact of the rise of totalitarian regimes in Europe and the ways in which these governments were responsible for creating the conditions for World War Two. Additionally, students will inquire into key concepts related to the war in Europe such as appeasement, the effects of Nazi aggression, and the impact of new wartime technologies. This unit will culminate in a research project based on a student-generated, open-ended question. Students will have the opportunity to choose the format in which they present their learning. Past examples have included written papers, video presentations, and student-designed websites.
