Grade 10 Individuals and Societies students are progressing through our first unit of inquiry on the topic of identity, politics, and power.  As a part of this unit, students have had the opportunity to inquire about the role that identity often plays in shaping our political views and actions in society.  We continue to examine this from a range of perspectives using specific case studies from around the world.  Next week, students will begin a formative task that will require them to locate reliable sources and analyze data related to the socio-economic and political issues facing a selected identity group.  They will have the opportunity to identify trends and draw conclusions related to such things as levels of wealth and rates of poverty, education attainment levels, equal treatment under the law, crime and incarceration rates, access to quality healthcare, representation in the workforce, etc.  Ultimately, students will utilize this data analysis on the summative task which will be due in early November.
