Grade 9 Individuals and Societies students are off to a great start this school year!  It has been a real pleasure to get to know them as students and the level of thoughtfulness and participation in class is much appreciated.  We are in full swing with our first unit of inquiry which examines the Interwar Years, or the period between the world wars (1919-1939).  Our focus for this unit is on systems of government and explores the cause and effect relationships between effective governance and the likelihood of conflict.  Key topics and concepts include the impact of the Treaty of Versailles, factors influencing the failures of the League of Nations, and the causes and consequences of the rise of Totalitarianism in Europe.  Students are encouraged to think critically about this important time in history and to reflect on the lessons it may offer for our world today.
