When we think about Music, we often first approach it from our personal preferences. But can your preferences be connected to your identity as an individual? How about your communal identity? Or cultural identity? In Grade 8, the students are exploring the concept of identity and how different styles and genres can express both individual and group identities, and what this means when we connect with others. Next week, the students will share their first formatives in this unit as we try to express our own identities before we try to connect with others. They have been given the choice about how they wish to present themselves and the influences that make them THEM.
