This week in Grade 7 I&S, students consolidated their inquiry into The Connection Between Human Impact on the Environment & Climate Change via creation of a brochure. Each member of the class chose a location and explored the biome of that place in terms of flora, fauna, climate and how people exploit natural resources in that biome. They also considered sustainability and the ways in which shifts in practice (e.g. planting 2 trees for every 1 cut down), might reduce our impact on the environment and, by extension, slow down climate change.
The students in Grade 7 demonstrated deep engagement with this topic, and created a range of digital products using different mediums such as Book Creator and Google Pages. We finished the unit with a Musical Chairs (sort of) approach to presenting learning to each other. Students sat in 2 concentric circles, facing each other, and had two minutes in which to share their learning and work with their opposite number.
When the timer rang, the outside circle moved clockwise one chair and the clock started counting down again. This process allowed each class member to present multiple times, each time refining their presentation and using more precise language to talk about their topic.
T’was lots of fun!
