Recently grade 8 mathematicians have been collaboratively investigating the laws of indices.
They then made posters to communicate their findings. These posters will be assessed by the group in terms of their Criteria C: communication. This will help them to further understand what approaches would gain the maximum levels of achievement.
Working through these activities they were considering the ATL’s (approaches to learning)
- Focus & concentration (being aware of the passing of time)
- Listen actively to other perspectives & ideas
- Test generalizations (they needed to check if their approaches were correct)
These approaches they can utilize throughout the year to help them learn, communicate and apply new knowledge.
