Grade 10 learned about the properties of sulfuric acid this week. One of those is its dehydrating effect on household sugar, which results in an impressive chemical reaction producing a column of carbon which grows very tall – this started off with just a thin layer off sugar with some distilled water in the bottom of a beaker.
