You may know these as animal crackers or zoo cookies. It seems reasonable to package all sorts of animals together in the same bag or box, but what are the consequences of mixing so many carnivores in with the herbivores?

In Math Studies, we are looking at the chi-squared test for independence to determine if the broken cookies tend to be e often carnivores (e.g. lions, penguins, cats, bears) or herbivores (e.g. camels, elephants, sheep, turtles). While you may not expect there to be a difference, proving this to be true is surprisingly difficult, especially when you consider which animals shapes tend to have heads and legs that easily break off.
