In French students have worked incredibly hard since Le Jour de la Terre (Earth Day) creating their own social media awareness posts linked to environmental issues. The posters you can see here are only some of their first drafts, and honestly, some are already looking worthy of our school Instagram account! Their final versions will include both French and English, allowing students to think not only about language, but also about audience, impact, and communication across cultures. You should see them very soon, and we’ll be waiting for your comments.
Digital design in French, here we come!
Beyond language learning itself, this work also develops media literacy, a skill that has become essential in today’s world. Students are learning that communication can influence behaviours, raise awareness, and inspire action. More importantly, they are discovering that service is not meaningless or reserved for “big organisations”; it can happen at every scale, including within a school community.
This matters deeply in the Francophone world too. From climate discussions around rising sea levels in French-speaking Pacific islands, to biodiversity protection projects in parts of West Africa, to sustainable urban initiatives in cities like Paris or Montréal, environmental questions are shaping conversations across the French-speaking world. Our students are therefore not just learning vocabulary; they are stepping into real global discussions that will directly affect their generation and the future of the planet they will inherit.
And perhaps that is the most important part of all: helping young people realise that their voice matters, that ideas matter, and that even a poster created in a classroom can become the beginning of awareness, discussion, and change.
À bientôt!
