Our Grade 9 MYP Science students are deeply engaged in the Human Body and Metabolism unit, now focused on the digestive system. Building on their study of biological molecules and the effect of factors on enzyme activity, the class is mastering the structure and function of key organs.

A hands-on activity helped them solidify essential terminology—from peristalsis in the esophagus to absorption in the small intestine. This comprehensive understanding of mechanical and chemical digestion is crucial.

This unit isn’t just a Grade 9 requirement; it forms the necessary foundation for success in the Grade 10 e-assessment and future studies in higher-level Biology. By exploring how the body converts complex food into usable energy, they are truly understanding the “engine within.”
