As you all know, Grade 8 students analysed print advertisements for the first half of this term. Now, they are creating their own print advertisement or commercial for a brand and product of their choice. This requires them to do research into theĀ ethos of the brand (company) to ensure their advertisement/commercial complies with the company’s vision and mission. They explored Coca Cola’s ad campaign “Opening Happiness” in relation to the company’s vision and mission. They also considered how a product which was highly coveted but lost its attraction, like Labubus, can be advertised to again increase their market value.
Students prepared slogans based on the ethos of a company they researched and shared this with their peers. This gave them the opportunity to ask questions about the brand and company and how the slogan connects to the company’s ethos.
As we head into next week, the students will begin outlining and storyboarding their advertisement as part of the creation process. Much of what they are doing is aligned with the design cycle as well. Thus, they are encouraged to transfer their understanding of the design cycle and apply it in the context of creating/designing an advertisement/commercial.
