For our Who We Are unit , students shared about their families and favorite things, then independently surveyed their friends, linking Language Arts (questioning, speaking, listening) with Math (tally marks and comparing results). Throughout, we lived the IB Learner Profile: Caring classmates listened respectfully, encouraged one another, and thanked their partners; Open-minded learners celebrated our many home languages and perspectives as we located where we’re from on a world map; and Principled students took turns, recorded honest tallies, and returned materials responsibly. Our approaches to learning were front and center, too: Social skills grew as children introduced themselves, used kind words, and collaborated to gather information, while Self-Management skills shone as they organized clipboards, moved safely around the room, stayed focused, and reflected on what they noticed. It was a joyful start that built community, confidence, and curiosity.
