Dear Parents,

As we approach the summer break, it’s important to be mindful of the “summer slide” – a decline in academic skills that can occur during the long break from school. This learning loss can affect all students, especially those in upper elementary grades where foundational concepts are being introduced. Without regular engagement in reading, writing, or math, children may forget essential skills, which can create learning gaps that slow progress in the new academic year.

The good news is that preventing the summer slide doesn’t require a strict academic schedule. There are simple, fun ways to keep children learning throughout the summer. Reading daily, practicing math in real-life scenarios like shopping or baking, and exploring science through DIY projects can all keep young minds active. Activities such as keeping a summer journal or learning a few phrases in a new language can make learning enjoyable and memorable.

We encourage you to use this summer as an opportunity to foster your child’s curiosity and love for learning. Whether it’s through museum visits, gardening, or setting small educational goals, keeping learning alive during the break will ensure your child returns to school confident and prepared. Thank you for your continued support in helping our students thrive!
