For the last lesson of the week, the students in Grade 8 were intrigued to learn that they would be doing a demonstration/experiment in the Science lab for Humanities. They were engaged in demonstrating growth or decline of a country’s population. As in a Science lab, they had to observe changes and record data for 5 trials representing 5 years. When I wrote the word Math on the board, the immediate question from a student was “Why Math?” Quickly, they discovered that they had to look for population trends and record these in mathematical equations. Overall, the students seem to be engaged in their learning and enjoyed the cross-curricular nature of the lesson.
