Over the past few weeks, our Grade 1 class has embarked on a fascinating journey through our unit of inquiry, “How We Organize Ourselves.” We welcomed various community members who shared their roles and responsibilities, enhancing our understanding of how each person helps shape our community. Through engaging discussions and thoughtful questioning, our students delved into the differences between needs and wants, learning to distinguish what is essential.
In addition to these insights, our students had the opportunity to visit the Grade 6 exhibition, where they observed and learned from the projects of our older peers. This visit not only broadened their understanding of academic exploration but also connected them further to our school community.
In mathematics, the children have been mastering subtraction through various strategies, including counting back, using their fingers, and employing a number line. These methods have made learning math fun and accessible.
Our literacy sessions have been equally exciting as we started exploring Consonant-Vowel-Consonant-e (CVCe) patterns, focusing on the long vowel ‘a.’ Words like “cake,” “cane,” and “rate” are helping us understand and apply this important phonetic rule.
Each day brings new learning and discoveries, and we are thrilled to see the growth and enthusiasm in our young learners as they connect classroom lessons to the world around them.
