As part of our Grade 8 Visual Art unit on Picasso’s 3D abstract forms, students began their investigation by selecting a painting from Picasso’s Cubist style. Our main objective is to explore form as our key concept, aiming to encourage creative thinking.
During our art classes, we also conduct weekly 5-minute short lessons. These are designed to keep students motivated, inspire creativity, and encourage risk-taking. In one of the short lessons this week, students were challenged to create a 3D sculpture in 5 minutes using only toothpicks, sticky tacks, and cardboard. The goal for students was to connect their sculptures to the painting they were studying. The lesson concluded with a quick gallery walk and a brief presentation.
