I appreciate everyone’s support during this time as I travel to the States and remain there until the end of Eid Al-Fitr due to some urgent family matters. Please contact Glen Nicholson and Matthew Richmond with any urgent questions, comments, or concerns. I’m available and I’ll remain in contact with everyone; however, due to the nearly 12-hour time difference I cannot commit to anything timely or synchronous.

As one way to simultaneously summarize and reflect or vice versa, please take some time to check out G6 W27 in Pictures by adding, downloading, or just browsing through all of the sights and sounds throughout the week.

School Events – Important Dates

  • Barcelo Resort: G6 overnight trip to Mussanah = TBD
  • Third Term Progress Reports = Thursday, April 11, 2024 (at the latest and must coincide the first date of Eid Al-Fitr)
  • Student-Led Conferences = Monday & Tuesday, April 22 – 23, 2024

Google Classroom

The entire G6 learning community has completely transitioned to using Google Classroom as the main platform for teaching and learning. Students engage daily with materials, quizzes, assignments, and increased expectations. Invitations were previously sent out, which means that you are most welcome to accept a digital invitation at your earliest convenience.

Transdisciplinary (or Literacy + UoI) Summary

This week in transdisciplinary learning, students continued inquiring into the central idea: ‘Flight inspires scientific innovation.’ In reading, students used materials to support their research before submitting assignments: Cornell Notes. In writing, students used materials to draft parts of an informational essay: Lead, First Subtopic, Second Subtopic, Third Subtopic, Ending. There is a hard due date to submit this essay by 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 31, 2024. In Unit of Inquiry, students received a template for a science report that was suggested by MYP Science teachers. There is a hard due date to submit this report by 1:00 on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

One of the most important points that teachers have emphasized is how students must include paraphrases and direct quotes with citations using the MLA Formatting and Style. This is important as students make the transition into Secondary because this is an expectation from G7 until G12 at ABIS.

Numeracy Summary

This week, in math students inquired into the opposite of a number’s opposite, plotted rational numbers on a number line, and ordered integers and other rational numbers. There were a few moments when mathematics went ‘level up’ because students had to convert from fractions to decimals and vice versa before ordering these numbers. Part of the technical and subject-specific vocabulary students have used includes horizontal/vertical number line, range, value scale, equidistant and zero.
