Dear Parents and Students,

Good afternoon and Welcome to the end of week 27.

This week in math students continue to expand their learning about numbers: rational numbers, positive and negative integers through accurately plotting these numbers as coordinates on either a vertical or horizontal number line. This week this has ‘levelled up’ with students learning how to translate from fractions to decimals and to order these on a number line. Students have also learnt about value scales, the term equidistant and what it means as well as that the opposite of a number is through zero.

For home learning, on google classroom students have been asked to complete problem sets and as always it is important that students maintain and revise their basic facts for instant, accurate recall.

For integrated language and UOI, students continue inquiring into the central idea: ‘Flight inspires scientific innovation.’

Students continue to develop their reading and writing through working on tasks set in Google Classroom in relation to a scientific report they are working on compiling. This week students received the blank scientific report template through google classroom and have begun to fill this out as they complete the individual parts. This is Due on the 7th of April. Next week, once the research phase of the report has been completed,  students will begin working on designing, making and testing different designs of paper aeroplanes using the scientific method. We look forward to this fun part of our current unit. Students also continue to work on how to include direct quotes in their writing as well as how to paraphrase and accurately cite their research using the MLA format which is what students will use from grade 7 on. Please do talk with your children about this as a point for conversation and to gain insight into what they are learning about in class.
