Google Classroom

As previously mentioned and as part of students transitioning from the PYP into the MYP, this week we are also finalizing moving from SeeSaw–as the preferred platform connecting school to home–to Google Classroom. All students have logged into the G6 PYP classroom with expectations that they engage with materials, quizzes, and assignments daily. Please be on the lookout for an invitation to join. Please be aware that this platform allows all users to keep up to date with information, tasks, assessments, notices, and reports.

Literacy Summary

This week in reading, students reviewed and (more strategically) used comprehension strategies, specifically how to make meaning of new, unfamiliar, important, etc. ‘lingo’ or vocabulary. This week in writing, students learnt about one cause of academic honesty–plagiarism–by using a plagiarism checker for their research-based information writing. Students also plotted out their research trail and topics for writing in MLA Format.

Numeracy Summary

This week, students began an investigation into numbers: rational numbers, positive integers, and negative integers through accurately plotting those numbers as coordinates on a number line.

UoI Summary

This week in our unit of inquiry, science was definitely integrated with reading and writing through an introduction to this unit’s central idea: ‘Flight inspires scientific innovation.’
