Dear Secondary Families,

Although the weather this week caused some disruption to our Oman Week, I am very pleased that most of our students got to experience some exciting activities. Our Grade 7 students traveled to Jebel Shams for a ‘Mountain Adventure’. They got to camp out under the stars and enjoy the camp fire. They got to take part in a number of activities including bushcraft, orienteering, hiking, rock climbing and abseiling. They had to work in teams and set up all of their own tents. These of the kind of skills and memories that I am sure will stay with our students for a long time. Thank you to Mr Fernando, Ms Dorothy and the GET Team for providing such an amazing experience!

Our Grade 8 & 10 students travelled to Barcelo Mussanah Resort for a ‘Sailing Camp’. They were also expected to set up their own tents and enjoyed the camp fire under the stars. All students were able to complete their two day sailing course despite having to reduce the length of the trip. I was lucky enough to visit the students and was very impressed with how well they worked together to create their camp. Many of the IB Approaches To Learning (ATL’s) were evident. Having spoken to the students, they clearly loved the trip and some may have now found a passion for sailing! Thank you to Ms Marie, Mr Ferdi, Oman Sail and Barcelo Resort for proving this memorable activity.

Our Grade 9 students were able to travel to Muscat and enjoy a fun day at Snow Oman and the Royal Opera House. For some it was the first time that they experienced snow! Unfortunately due to the weather and school closure, we were not able to visit Wadi Hoqain and explore the local attractions in Sohar. This is something that we will look to do at a future date.

Next week will bring the start of Ramadan and I would like to wish all families who celebrate this Ramadan Kareem.

The school hours for Ramadan will take effect from Monday, as per the Newsflash from earlier in the week.

Kind regards,

Andy
