In Music, the grade 8s have been looking into the modern music business and look how pieces are built today.  While original work is still being produced, three musical structures have been growing in popularity.  When an artist takes an existing song and remakes it, often updating and modernizing the music, it is called a cover. Sometimes, songs are remixed, meaning snippets of a composition are frankensteined together with a strong house beat, creating something that is half recognizable and half new.  The most common structure is when a musical theme is taken from one song and repurposed in a new way in an original composition, this is called sampling.  Turn on the radio or put on your latest playlist- can you identify any of these forms in what you hear?
