Dear Parents and Students,

I hope these few words find you well. This week, the majority of our students have had an extremely busy week, lots of things going on, sports school winter concert, Musical production, finishing off literary essays, reflecting on our learning through Seesaw posts, reviewing our mathematical understandings and reasoning in relation to fractions, decimals and percentages and of course social and emotional learning in relation to managing ourselves and our time to maximise study routines for exams coming up.

Integrated Unit of Inquiry

This week students have once again dived into their passion projects working to develop and refine their central ideas and lines of inquiry for their Exhibition units. Please see this week’s review in pictures for examples of their work. Students have also begun to create their designs for what our Exhibition T shirt could look like this year.  We will vote on the entries for this next week. Some excellent entries already.

Language

Students have been finalising and publishing their literary essays around character traits, themes and relationships within a book as well as looking at doing a comparative essay comparing two books to each other.

Mathematics

This week’s highlight was students reviewing their work on fractions and dividing fractions through solving mixed equations and providing evidence of their mathematical reasoning.  An example of some of the problems students have been working to solve are as below. Try a few yourself and see if you are as smart as a 6th grader 🙂

  1. How many half miles are there in twelve miles?
  2. How many quarter hours are there in five hours?
  3. How many thirds of a cup are in nine cups?
  4. How many eighths of a pizza are in four pizzas?
  5. How many one-fifths are there in seven wholes?

Homework

Please remember that there is homework every day except over the weekend. It is important that students are reading, writing and doing Maths practice on a daily  basis. Thank you for supporting this and for sighting and signing this every week.
