Dear Parents and Students,

It’s hard to believe that Term 1 is already over. Time flies when you are having fun learning.

Please see below a  review of the week in pictures.

Homework

As students continue to develop their self management and independence skills in this area, thank you for your continued support. Please remember to sight and sign your children’s homework books before they come back to school every Sunday morning.

Reading and writing

This week learners have continued to develop their research and writing skills by working to complete their book character study and personal stories. Please look for these on seesaw.

Mathematics

This week in Math, students have continued to work on developing their reasoning and number skills. Students  also began to look at extending their understanding of Ratios into Values, and unit rates such as Kilometres Per Hour (KPH) as in the speedometer in the car as a measure of time/ speed and distance. When we come back in term 2, this will be further extended to connect ratios to fractions to percentages and decimals. Lots of great learning with real life connections taking place.  Explaining our thinking in math has been a challenging task and the students are beginning to develop this skill. Please see their Seesaw journal for these posts.

Integrated UOI

This week we really looked at organising groups for our How We Organise Ourselves (HWOO) which is the G6 Exhibition unit. Students also began to brainstorm topics for their inquiries. Great progress being made here.

For our Who We Are unit inquiring into the nature of self, students worked on wrapping this up and reflecting on their learning during the last 6 weeks.  This has been a great unit for reflecting on our identity, who we are and why we are that way. Again, please see Seesaw posts for samples of this work and this learning.

Social and Emotional Learning

This week students discussed and unpacked ideas about the concept of balance. This in relation to Sleep or rest, screentime/ time on internet connected devices, diet and exercise. One of the things students did for this was to chart the benefits and disadvantages of each of these on a continuum. There was some great learning here. (Thank you Ms Maitha.) Please talk with your children about this. They are a wealth of information about what is happening in class and what they are learning.
