As we come towards the end of the first term it is important to reflection the children’s progress. They have learned a growing number of new sounds and using this knowledge they are becoming risk-takers in reading. Continued support at home with reading and writing the Golden Words is having a positive influence on the children’s attitude to writing. They are growing in confidence when labeling their illustrations and some are even writing phrases and sentences to describe their learning. Daily practice of counting, and adding two or even three numbers together is leading the children to become more familiar with larger numbers.

During our unit of inquiry the children have been identifying the difference between their needs and wants. Learning in smaller focused group they reflected on the needs and wants in our classroom community. During the break we encourage you to reflect on the needs and wants in your home with your child. If possible, ask your child to draw and label this learning opportunity which can be shared with the class.
