Dear Parents and Students,

I hope these few words find you well.  It is hard to believe but yes another busy week has come and gone.

Please see below for a review of the week in pictures:

Homework

Thank you for checking and signing homework books because this shows the importance of completing activities at home to consolidate learning. This also gives you an insight into your children’s lives as students.

Reading and writing

During this week learners have continued to work on developing reading and writing skills. Students have also continued to work on their book character study looking at developing themes within a text as well as how the environment or setting in a story can put pressure on a character and may change their persona.

Mathematics

This week in Math, students worked hard on real life problem solving and began looking at how ratios can also be written as values which can be translated into fractions. Big thinking work.

Integrated UOI

This week as part of our Who We Are unit we have discussed values, what we value and why. This led us to personality traits and the people we see as Heroes. This was great and though there were a number of football personalities in this mix, a high number of students shared that their parents are their heroes. This was a little heart melting (in a good way) and quite awesome. Students worked to complete their self portraits and  researched and reported back on their understandings of the iceberg model of intercultural understanding (please see an image of this below).

Iceberg model of intercultural understanding

For this students all chose a topic ‘under the waterline’ on this model and unpacked what this meant from a local as well as global perspective.

Students have also reflected on themselves as learners and completed a self assessment in reference to their ATL. For this, they chose an ATL that they thought they were good at and gave examples of when and where they used this ATL Skill.

Yes, busy busy. Please do talk with your children about this. They have come up with some great examples. Please also see below a copy of our ATL for your convenience.
