Dear Parents and Students,

We have been busy this week and invite you to click on the link below to review Grade 6 in pictures for this week just gone.

Homework

Thank you for your continued support and helping students to be accountable to their home learning tasks by sighting and signing their homework each week.

Self-Management Skills & Essential Agreement

In Grade 6, we are focusing on developing self-management skills through our first unit. Rather than enforcing imposed consequences, we are providing opportunities for students to reflect on their behaviour and plan to make changes. Please talk with your child about what our essential agreements are as well as what their self management skills are and when and how they have used these skills either at school or at home. This will help consolidate these and will emphasize their importance. Thank you

Reading and writing

This week students have continued to work on their book character study both in reading and writing. The learning this week has been around understanding character traits and behaviours as well as how characters can develop and change through a book as readers uncover more information about them and as events unfold.

Mathematics

This week in Math, students have continued to work on developing their problem solving skills with ratios. These problems have become sequentially more complex however remain rooted in real life situations. If you are able to talk about this with your children and use real life math examples, this will also serve to emphasise the importance of mathematics in our lives as well as providing an insight into your child’s thinking and consolidate these skills. Please see our daily check in emails as a point of reference around differentiating and personalising homework for students.

Integrated UOI

This week we continue to inquire into our Wow We Are unit at the same time as beginning to tune into our Exhibition unit coming up. For this, students have been asked to read an article and record their top three interests or passions. We will then use these as part of frontloading our Exhibition unit in the coming weeks.

Worth Repeating

As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead.

Sincere regards,

Your partner in learning.
