Dear Parents and Students,

It is hard to believe that we have been at school for 5 weeks already. Congratulations for making it this far. Not long now and I believe the weather will start to cool down a little and students will once again be able to play outside at lunch recess time. With the high temperatures recently we are all looking forward to some cooler weather.

Goal Setting/ Work samples and reflections:

We are constantly reviewing our goals in light of new information. This week students were asked to review their goals and to update them on their seesaw pages.

Students have also been asked to choose samples from the core subjects of Language (Reading/ Writing), Math and UOI as well as one other subject of their choice to reflect on and share with you. These should also be viewable through your seesaw platform. Please check these out and talk with your children about these. A great way to stay in touch with where your children are ‘At’ and what they are doing in school.

Self-Management Skills & Essential Agreements

In Grade 6, we are focusing on developing self-management skills through our first unit. Rather than enforcing imposed consequences, we are providing opportunities for students to reflect on their behaviour and plan to make changes. As part of this, students have been tasked with completing their homework eerie night and to have parents sign this as proof of sight. For the most part, students are doing a great job with this and are showing very responsible behaviour in this respect. Well done to everyone that has completed all homework to date and thank you to all parents that are sighting this and signing this before sending this back to us for marking.

Unit Of Inquiry

This week we continued working on our first Unit of Inquiry and have been working on finalising our write-up on the connection between our culture and our identity. We also completed a group activity in which each of us looked at a specific cultural aspect from more than at least one perspective. This learning engagement was intended to develop our international mindedness and global citizenship. We will be making references to this unit and revisiting the concepts as we progress throughout the year.

This week coming we will also tune into our Exhibition unit, starting by identifying our passion and interests. This is a good time to have a chat with your children at home about their exhibition and identify which of their interests they would like to explore further. We will come back to this shortly.

Literacy

This week we have continued to engage with texts to find the main idea and supporting details around character development.

Mathematics

This week we continued our work on Ratios. Students are doing well with this and continue to develop their working understanding of how to solve problems involving ratios. Please see our daily check in for more details about this and for model questions.
