Inquiry is a fundamental part of the DP biology course and for our year 11 students, their inquiry skills were fully tested over the week. Students had been exploring the origin of the cell, the impact of technology on discovery, especially its impact on understanding the structure of the cell and how this understanding has helped to solve human problems. After the research into these areas, they had the opportunity to share their findings with their peers and the teacher in the classroom. The aim of this was to improve students’ research skills, communication skills and collaborative skills. It is expected that students will build on this understanding in the coming weeks as they explore the ultrastructure of cell in detail.
