The Bayeux Tapestry is an 11th century piece of Romanesque art, which tells the story of the events surrounding the conquest of England by the Normans. As an historical artifact it is a valuable source of information about daily life, politics and warfare in the European Early Middle Ages. Over the last number of weeks Grade 7 has been exploring a number of sources, researching and learning about the chain of events that ultimately led to England’s final conquering by the Norman King William.
To consolidate learning and show their critical understanding of this period of time, students wrote a 3-paragraph retelling of the Battle of Hastings. They then used this summary to guide creation of a visual storyboard which, much like the Bayeux Tapestry, depicts the battle in 6 captioned scenes.
