The week saw grade 8 students debating a very controversial issue in our world today; ethics in genetic engineering. Students looked at various perspectives of research in the field of genetic engineering. The purpose of this is to open the students understanding to some important debates that take place in the field of scientific research, especially in genetic engineering. We explored aspects of ethics and religion in cloning, in-vitro fertilization and gene transfers. What an amazing moment it was to see these young adults come up with some amazing reasons in support for and against the use of embryos in scientific research. At the end of the day, it was agreed that each position is acceptable and humans must work to make the world a better place.
