Our grade 8s have started learning about genetic engineering, a technique of taking a gene from one organism and putting it into a second organism in order to develop desired traits in the recipient organism. Our unit will eventually culminate in a debate for students to explore the ethics of genetic engineering. Students were particularly enthusiastic about the unit because it is the first time they were being introduced to genetic engineering. We hope to explore more on the unit in the coming days with some practical activities.
