In English we have been reading ‘Red Scarf Girl’ by Ji-Li Jiang. It is a memoir about her life during the Cultural revolution in China. To give context, students have investigated about Mao and Communist China from 1949 to 1976. Students have been considering the dilemmas that Ji-Li faced and have just started a formative assessment. In this they will identify the features of a memoir and evaluate the extent to which the author has included those features successfully.
In Individuals and Societies students have been investigating revolutions. They have presented projects on the transport, agricultural and industrial revolutions and have just completed a quick study of the French Revolution. In the next assignment we will be evaluating sources about the causes of the Russian revolution.
